Where can I watch Carlin race in 2021? Click here for the 2021 NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule, and click here for the 2021 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires schedule.
What is IndyCar? Featuring racing at a combination of superspeedways, short ovals, permanent road courses and temporary street circuits, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES offers its international lineup of drivers the most diverse challenges in motorsports. These stars drive single-seat, open-cockpit cars that feature a 2.2-liter, twin turbocharged, direct-injected V-6 engine optimized to run at 12,000 RPM with an estimated 500-700 horsepower. The consumer-relevant engines, supplied by Chevrolet and Honda, utilize Speedway E85R fuel. NTT INDYCAR SERIES cars reach speeds up to 235 mph at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Simply put, it’s the fastest, most diverse racing in the world! Visit IndyCar.com's INDYCAR 101 site for information on everything from chassis specs to driver fitness, and safety equipment to rulebook details.
What is Indy Lights? Indy Lights is an official development series of INDYCAR (the sanctioning body for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES) and the third and final step of the Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires ladder. The Road to Indy is the only driver development program in the world to feature a champion’s scholarship at every level to advance to the next step on the ladder system. Since the formation of the Road to Indy in 2010, 37 Indy Lights drivers have made career starts in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, and since the inception of Indy Lights, this number totals 143. All but three of the 33 champions in the series history have moved up to the top step. The highly acclaimed series was revitalized with a state-of-the-art chassis in 2015, which will remain in competition to at least 2024. Sharing similarities to an Indy car, the Dallara IL-15 provides the appropriate training for drivers to make the step up - a six-speed, paddle-shift transmission, a 50HP "push-to-pass" feature, "drive-by-wire" throttle control and advanced engine management electronics. What can I expect to experience at the track? Our goal is to provide you with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look into an IndyCar race weekend. You’ll be able to get up close with the inner workings of an IndyCar, smell the hot tires on pit lane after a long practice stint, and have a quick chat (or selfie) with an elite athlete. You’ll stand on the starting grid for pre-race ceremonies—like hanging out backstage at a concert or in the locker room before an NFL game—right before engines roar and the green flag flies. During the race, use our scanners to listen in to the drivers’ in-car radios for insight on car handling, pit stop strategy and spotter chatter.
What is a credential? This is your all-access, VIP pass! An INDYCAR credential provides access into the IndyCar pit lane, paddock/garage area and the race track/circuit. An INDYCAR credential does not provide a reserved grandstand seat. Per INDYCAR safety regulations, pit lane access is available to guests age 18 and older only. Paddock/garage age restrictions vary depending on the track/circuit.
How and when do I get my credentials? INDYCAR credentials must be picked up at the Credential Office (located just outside the race track/circuit) by each guest with a valid photo ID, before entering the track. Guests with INDYCAR credentials will receive an email confirmation with details.
What is the garage or paddock? A garage or paddock is a permanent structure (garage) or temporary tented area (paddock) for race teams to set up the cars and prep before on-track sessions and the race. This is our 'home base' during race weekends, meaning the mechanics spend the majority of their time working on the cars in the garage/paddock. You'll find the transporters (also called trucks or haulers) here, which carry the race cars and all of the race equipment you see at the track to and from our main workshop each event weekend. The transporters also have built-in offices for team management and engineers, as well as a drivers' lounge.
What is the pit lane? Each car has a designated position located along pit lane, which is where the car will start for practice sessions. The pit lane area includes the pit box, where the engineers and strategists monitor the car's telemetry and data while it's on track. The car comes back to the pit box area during the race for pit stops, so teams keep their allotment of tires, extra front and rear wings, and all necessary tools on pit lane. Mechanics can make some adjustments on pit lane, but typically return to the garage/paddock for larger changes to the car.
What should I wear to the race track? Comfortable shoes are a must! Close-toed shoes are strongly recommended for those planning to access the pit lane area. Some tracks require long pants and covered arms in the pit lane area as well. You will be outdoors enjoying the track experience; please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. IndyCar will race in the rain (on street/road courses), so a rain jacket is recommended as well. Ear protection/plugs are available at the track.
When can I chat with the drivers during the race weekend? As you can imagine, drivers stay very busy on race weekends with engineering meetings, fan autograph sessions, and of course the on-track racing. However, they always make an effort to take time with VIPs (that's you!) whenever possible. We will designate a specific ‘meet and greet’ time with your group, so you’ll have the chance to meet the drivers, take photos and get autographs. Please check the schedule for your meet and greet time and location.
What can I do at the track between IndyCar on-track sessions? Track promoters aim to offer fans a full entertainment experience on race weekends! Many provide interactive displays, expo areas, food and beverage vendors, concerts and more. The NTT INDYCAR SERIES race weekends are also typically partnered with another racing series (like the Mazda Road to Indy ladder series) so there is always action to check out on track. We encourage you to stroll through the IndyCar garage/paddock area to take a closer look into the IndyCar teams' race weekend prep.
Where can I find Carlin merchandise? You may purchase merchandise online here. Carlin merchandise is also available in the IndyCar merchandise trailers/tents during the race weekends.
